Life is Pretty in the City

Searching for la dolce vita

thinking about Italy

Whenever I see photos of Rome, memories flood back.  I envision it as if I returned yesterday.  I miss the sights & sounds; living in a city thousands of years old.

I can still taste the cappuccino and cornetto, the quattro formaggi gnocchi, the pizza in Sorrento, and the horrendous fish dinner. Oh, and how can I forget the gelato. I could really go for some stracciatella and ricotta right now.

I remember the pigeons attacking the cafe in Capri like it was yesterday, and the horrible but fantastic boat rides. I jumped off the boat and swam in the Tirrenian Sea. Never in a million years did I think I could do something like that.

I can still hear the voice on the metro saying “Spagna,” “Ottaviano,” “Cipro,” “Piazza del Popolo.”  Memories of running through Vatican City and Campo dei Fiori late at night are sill fresh in my mind.  I would love to be right on the Tiber River right now.

I still remember my second culture shock in Marosita, and my weekends in Bari and Florence. And only speaking Italian for a week and a half.

It’s just one of those days when I would do anything to go back…
